Granite
The stone that takes everything a kitchen can throw at it and still looks better than anything else in the room.
Granite is an igneous stone — it cooled slowly under pressure, which is why it is dense, hard and difficult to scratch. It handles hot pans, sharp knives and daily use better than almost anything else you can put on a kitchen island.
Because it is natural, every slab is different. Movement, grain and colour vary within the same quarry block, so we always ask you to choose the actual slab rather than a sample.
Built for kitchens that actually get used
If you cook every day, granite is the safest natural stone you can choose. It resists heat, it does not scratch easily, and a sealed surface shrugs off the spills that would mark softer stones.
It rewards use rather than punishing it — which is why it stays the most requested material we fabricate.
Sealing, seams and honest limits
Granite needs sealing, and how often depends on the specific stone — some varieties are dense enough to go years, others prefer annual attention. We tell you which one you are getting.
On larger layouts a seam is unavoidable. What matters is where it falls, and that is a decision we make together at templating, not something you discover on install day.
Granite in Michigan — FAQ
Is granite better than quartz?
Neither is better — they are different. Granite handles heat better and every slab is unique. Quartz needs no sealing and looks consistent from end to end. If you set hot pans down without thinking, granite. If you want predictability, quartz.
How often does granite need sealing?
It depends on the stone. Dense granites can go several years; more porous ones prefer annual sealing. We will tell you which category yours falls into and how to test it at home.
Will my granite look like the sample?
It will look like the slab you choose, which is why we ask you to see it in person at our Oak Park showroom. Samples show colour family, not the movement you will actually live with.
